School Time!

Did you know?

Paul Stender’s current project is to convert a Russian jet fighter into a car that will be able to reach 1,200 kilometres per hour.

Paul Stender is from Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He loves speed. When he was young, he grew up surrounded by motorbikes and snowmobiles. When he was a little older, he saw his first jet car race. From then on, he was hooked. He built his first jet vehicle and entered it in a race in 1995. Since then, he has built and owned over 28 jet vehicles and travels to 30 different events each year to show some of them off to the public.

Jet engines have always fascinated Paul Stender

His latest creation is something that will impress any student who has had the misfortune to travel on a slow school bus every day. Paul has taken an original American school bus and replaced its engine with a jet engine from an F4 Phantom jet fighter. Once the engine was changed, it was necessary to adapt much of the original bus using materials that you would normally find on an aircraft. He calls his school bus School Time.

Here are a few facts about School Time:

  • It shoots out a 24-metre flame when travelling at high speed.
  • In one run, it uses 567 litres of fuel.
  • It can travel at 590 kilometres per hour.

On the side of School Time are the words: Jets Are Hot – Drugs Are Not. Paul explains this as follows: “I built School Time to entertain the crowds. I also want to inspire students and encourage them to keep away from drugs. I want to show there is more to life than sitting in front of a computer. It’s also important for young people to have hobbies and creative interests. That will keep them away from bad influences”.

School Time certainly attracts the crowds!
